IF YOU HAVE A G.P. REFERRAL AND YOU ARE A NEW CLIENT, I CANNOT PROMISE THAT I CAN SEE YOU. HOWEVER, CALL ME AND LETS TALK.

If you have been referred by a G.P., and the referral is accompanied with a mental health care plan (MHCP), this plan has been done under Medicare’s “Better Access” program which enables G.P.s to refer patients for counseling for certain situations or conditions. This plan enables you to attend for up to 6 sessions, with the possibility of a further 4 sessions in a calendar year period. The plan is valid for up to 12 months.

If contact with me is not made within a month or two of the referral, I usually close the referral for the time being and notify the doctor that there has been no contact.  You  are not obliged in any way to attend counseling.  It is there for your consideration. It is your choice.

Medicare covers the majority of the cost of counselling (under a MHCP), but there is  a payment gap.

  • If you are unemployed and with limited assets, there is a gap of $15.20 per session.

(Rebate of $74.80 after payment of $90 on the day).

  • If you are employed there is a minimum gap of $35.20 per session. The gap fee is sensitive to individual or family income.

(Rebate of $74.80 after payment on the day).

When attending a session for the first time, please ensure you bring your Medicare card.
